We have been providing Project Management to lawyers for many years prior to the mandatory requirements for costs budgets. Having served as part of the Costs Budgeting team at international law firm DLA Piper, we worked with adapted time recording systems and with phased and staged budgets that are now so prevalent in industry today.
In the present we continue to work with our clients to produce effective, workable budgets that perform throughout the life of the project and assist with providing advanced costs information in tenders and costs proposals.
Our instructions in this area of law are not confined to lawyers. We are often instructed by corporates and individuals to provide independent advice prior to and during the engagement of lawyers. This function is not primarily to restrict legal spend but simply to ensure the Client retains control of legal expenditure.
Our offerings in this respect include assisting with team selection and any tender process, working with their lawyers to agree overall cost and liaising with the legal team at strategic stages of the litigation to ensure that the budget performs or to agree appropriate and reasonable updates and revisions.
